MALAGA HAS A PRIVILEGED LOCATION FOR THE TOURIST... both for its very own location between the sea and the mountains as for the beauty and cultural wealth of the landscapes, cities and villages in the neighbourhood. From Nerja in the east to Manilva in the west, the province of Malaga is all about diversity, from the views to the mediterranean cuisine and the hospitality of the people. Here is an overview of the highlights: THE MOUNTAIN RANGE OF RONDAWe can start this excursion with Ronda itself, one of the most monumental and romantic cities of Andalusia. In Ronda we visit the Tajo, 100 meters in depth, with the New Bridge of Martín de Aldehuela, the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería, the Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor, the Palaces of Mondragón y del Marqués de Salvatierra, the Baños Árabes, ... The mountain range of Ronda is part of the most traditional itinerary of the typical 'Pueblos Blancos' or white towns of Andalusia, such as Atajate, Benadalid, Algatocín, Gaucín and many more. And of course we have to mention the "Sierra de la Nieves" or the snowy mountain range... , a natural reservation protected by UNESCO that you find from Iztán and Ojen near Marbella... up to the inland villages of Alozaina and Tolox. THE EASTERN COSTA DEL SOLThis is the part of Malaga that is most popular and renowned internationally, with world wide known towns and cities such as Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella or Estepona all located close to one another... and all boasting a different atmosphere. Here you will find the most complete entertainment area of Europe, with Entertainment Parks, Casinos, Golf Courses, Shopping Malls and prestigeous marina's such as Puerto Banus. Just a few kilometers from this coast you already find the first white towns, the best known ones being Casares, Ojén and of course immensily popular Mijas Pueblo. AXARQUÍAThe gateway of the Axarquía region is at " El Palo", the eastern neighbourhood of Malaga city with its long beach and dozens of fish restaurants. Following the coast towards the east, you will find town such as Torre del Mar, Vélez-Málaga , Algarrobo, Torrox Costa and Nerja with its "Balcony of Europe" and its caves that were discovered in 1959. Some thirty towns are integrated into 5 different routes, all perfectly indicated, that each of them make up a very nice excursion: del Sol y el Aguacate, del Sol y del Vino, del Mudéjar, de la Pasa, del Aceite y de los Montes. VEGA DEL GUADALHORCEThe río Guadalhorce (Guadalhorce river) has created a valley that is rich in agriculture, especially for lemons. In this valley you can drive from one traditional town to the other: Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande, Cártama, Pizarra, Alora or Coín. The Parque Ardales is a Must. With the 'embalse' (an artificial lake) Conde de Guadalhorce, as well as the Garganta del Chorro with a lenght of 3 Kms and a height of 400 meters, it makes up for a lovely day, especially in summer. COMARCA DE ANTEQUERAAntequera, the capital of 'La Comerca', is a monumental city in the heart of Andalusia and yet close to Malaga city. The castle, the churches, the Museum, the Arco de los Gigantes... are but a few of the musts of this very nice city. A few kilometers from Antequera, you will find the dolmenic region of Menga, Viera y el Romeral. Real lovers of nature obviously must go to EL TORCAL, one of the most impressive landscapes of Europe, as well as the LAGUNA DE FUENTA PIEDRA, a unique enclave known to be Europe's second favourite spot for colonies of Flamencos (together with the Camargue in France). Archidona, Campillos, Alameda, Mollina, Humilladero... are other typical small towns that make your day complete.
