The Catedral de la EncarnaciónKnown as "La Manquita" ("the litlle one armed lady") because one of the tours was never finished, the cathedral of Malaga is a true gem of the Renaissance. Started in 1528 all works stopped in the 18th century, as the funds were necessary to help the United States in the struggle for independence. The cathedral stands at the Plaza del Obispo in the centre of the city and 200 meters from Hotel Venecia. The Roman TheatreThe roman theatre always impresses me. Apart from its history - the theatre seems to have been constructed in the 1st century BC and have been in use until the 3th century) - I just love to walk in the neigbourhood, especially in the small street that is full of bars such as "El Pimpi", renowned to attract many a national and international star. Or the "Cafe Negro", also very fashionable lately. Especially late in the evening, when the lights of the Alcazaba are lit and people have started to go out, this is a lovely neighbourhood. Do not forget to have a look at the facade of the 'Cofradia' of the students. Gibralfaro castleDid you ever see that typical image of Malaga in which you can see the bay, the port, the Paseo del Parque en the whole centre of the city? This is the view from Gibralfaro. Built in the 14th century as a way to reinforce the Alcazaba, the Gibralfaro became a very difficult to conquer obstacle for the Catholic Kings during their conquest of the rule of Granada. Afterwards, they used the Gibralfaro as their own place to stay... and if kings lived there, it will be for a reason, no? The Alcazaba of MalagaI think that the monument that we Malagueños are most proud of, is the Alcazaba. In college the most important excursions always went to the Alcazaba, and still today I like turning back every now and again, to enjoy the silence, the mystery... if you let your imagination free, you can imagine and feel a bit of how life was led in this castle and you can feel a bit part of history. Created by the military, the concentric construction had as purpose that you would need to cross various gates to get to the supreme centre of power of Malaga. Over time, it decayed. Being declared a National Monument in 1931, it was reconstructed again, for a great deal under the guidance of historian Juan Temboury. All lit, the castle is at its nicest at night. During the day you have a magnificent view over the bay. It is a 5 minute walk to Hotel Venecia. The other interesting buildings of Malaga:They are all close to one another, so you can see all of them in just an hour or two hours time: PALACIO EPISCOPAL ADUANA The building of the El edificio de la Nueva Aduana, proyectado al final del XVIII, se terminó en 1829. Se trata de una edificación de severa línea neoclásica, italianizante, con un bello patio interior. AYUNTAMIENTO Desde 1919 el ayuntamiento de la ciudad ocupa un edificio, que ocupaba una zona ganada al mar, que se urbanizó con varios edificios de calidad y jardines. Destaca por su alegre decoración de la fachada y los coloristas salones de interior. BANCO DE ESPAÑA Cercano al Ayuntamiento, y de estilo clásico, con su pórtico columnado, preside el nuevo entorno urbano de la ciudad. CORREOS El edificio de Correos, ahora sede del Rectorado Universitario, está al lado de los antes citados, enfrente al parque ganado al mar. Es neomudéjar. PALACIO DE CONGRESOS Por último, entre la obra moderna, el inmenso Palacio de Ferias y Congresos, ubicado a las afueras, inaugurado en el año 2003, y con 62.000 metros cuadrados construidos. Particularmente a mi el Palacio de Congresos me encanta. Es super moderno y enorme. Si cuando esteis por aqui, hay alguna feria importante, no dejeis de ir. MUSEO PICASSO Por si hay alguien en el mundo que no lo sepa, además de Antonio Banderas o Pasión Vega, los malagueños contamos con un pintor llamado Pablo Ruiz Picasso...os suena? Pues sí, Pablo nació aqui y por supuesto, no podemos sentirnos más orgullosos de nuestro personaje más universal. Dicen que nadie es profeta en su tierra, pero Picasso es la excepcion que confirma la regla y ya desde hace unos años, contamos con un museo que alberga muchísimás obras suyas. Si vienes, es totalmente obligado pasarte por allí, pasamos lista eh... El Museo Picasso se encuentra en el antiguo Palacio de Buenavista, edificio renacentista del siglo XVI, muy próximo a la catedral malagueña. La colección del museo permite ver la evolución del artista lo largo de su vida, gracias principalmente a los cuadros donados por Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso: 155 obras del autor malagueño, que incluyen esculturas, óleos y una gran cantidad de dibujos. En el propio edificio del museo se albergan testimonios arqueológicos del pasado de la ciudad: restos fenicios, romanos y árabes. Esta situado en pleno casco historico de la ciudad, a unos 10 minutos del Hotel Venecia. CALLE LARIOS No voy a deciros que vayáis a verla, no me preocupa, sé que lo vais a hacer. Y digo esto porque no os va a quedar más remedio que ir, ya ke está justo en frente del hotel. Tengo que decir que hace un par de dias pasé por alli, y me quedé impresionado. Siempre es bonito pasear por ella, pero especialmente el otro día con su nueva iluminación, la gente de compras y la luna llena...Jeje, se me nota que me encanta esta calle no?? Es la principal calle de Málaga, en ella se encuentran las tiendas, cafeterias y restaurantes de mayor lujo de la ciudad. Empieza en la Alameda Principal y termina en la Plaza de la Constirución, la cual, por cierto, me parece también espectacular. Así que os recomiendo fervientemente que paseéis por ella, especialmente en 3 fechas: Navidad, Semana Santa y Feria.
